Bibliophiles Anonymous is a book club that focuses on the "classics" and other great works of literary genius (as determined by us). The rules are simple: The first rule of book club is don't talk about garbage books at book club (garbage books include mass market, romance, fantasy, chick lit, etc.). Books are chosen by democratic vote from submissions by members in attendance at the general meeting. We always know what we're reading two months ahead of time. We meet the second last Friday of e …
This is a critique group for novel writers who are serious about trying to publish via traditional routes. You will be expected to provide written copies of your work, to write written critiques for other writers, and to attend meetings. In return, we'll help you learn to write marketable fiction -- though the work is, of course, up to you.
The pen is deadlier than the sword, and crime/mystery fiction is the most fun kind to write. Here's a handy place to swap news related to crime and mystery writing for all levels of skill and interest: author appearances, writing workshops, book clubs, coffee meets, and any local, regional, or national events that might interest Calgary crime writers and crime readers.
This group is for getting the words onto the page. This is like parallel play, but parallel writing. The result is getting out far more words than you would otherwise. We meet in a coffee shop, chat a little, and then write our own projects. If you have ideas in your head and can't seem to find the time to get them onto paper, or if you just want to spend more time with a creative outlet, this is the group for you. The central purpose of this group is to help people focus on their writing. Group …

In the spirit of Dada (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dada)
this is a group for those who want to be around creative people. I would like this group to grow organically into whatever it chooses. Though I'm new to Calgary, I'll find great places to meet. However, if you have thoughts on when and where we should meet, I'm very interested in your suggestions. This group is for poetry, music, theater, film, and of course writing lovers. Visual Arts may be added, and if you're into that, please join us …

"I don't know if this really happened," began the old Sisika story-teller, "But I know that this is true." The Bible's truth does not rely on its having been literally dictated by God, or by being purported to be absolutely factual. The Bible is a collection of myriad literary forms: historical writings, legal writings, novels, poetry, prophecy, anecdotes, family legends, personal letters, and visions. Many forms, like poetry, were never intended to be dry factual details. But the truth of the B …
They say writing is a solitary business, but sometimes it's nice to get out of the house and meet new people. Why not do both? Come write with a group of like-minded people all suffering through the unique agonies and delights of developing the craft of speculative fiction writing. Fantasy? Horror? Slipstream? Science Fiction? Something new and different? Consider yourself invited. Not a critique group. Not a discussion group. Just bring your laptop or notepad, have a delicious beverage …
