Always wanted to write, but can't get started? Stuck midway through a project? Writers need time devoted to the doing, and this group aims to set aside and protect that time. Unlike other writing groups that mainly critique manuscripts or give prompts for writing at home, we focus on generating new writing during the meeting. During our gatherings in a quiet setting, we will write exercises and offer feedback without damaging writing or writers. Those with a piece in progress may choose either t …

Meet other local writers and let creativity bloom! Come to a Writers Meetup to review work, trade literary tips, make friends and have fun! All writers -- and should-be writers -- are welcome! Specific details This meetup formed, phoenix-like, out of the ashes of the Raleigh writer's group that had been in existence since June 2005, and which I began being moderator of in September 2006. Our format is to read our writings aloud at each meeting, each work read can be up to 10 pages, double-spac …

There are some great writing groups in Wake County already, but what I need the most is some time away from the house to be able to actually work. To that end I’ve started this group to provide write-ins for every author, regardless of genre or skill level. This is a writing practice group where you can work on a specific project, find your inner voice, or just try your hand at writing for the first time. Writing prompts will be given at the start of each session (and on Twitter @WakeWriters) bu …
A writers group of like minded individuals from Cumberland, Hoke, Robeson, Moore, and surrounding NC counties who are committed to the success of each other. Together we share a host of information with each other, providing wholesome support and encouragement to potential and established writers. Currently we get together twice a month to review manuscripts. This is primarily for novels or short stories. If poetry or screenplays are your thing, no problem, there are groups within this group who …

We are a writing critique group specifically geared toward people working on novels. Most of our members are writing sci fi/fantasy, but we are open to writers working in other genres. If you are primarily a poet or a playwright, we are not the group for you. We intentionally keep our membership small so that every member of the group can submit writing to every meeting. As a result, we are all very familiar with each others' work. We seek members who are committed to providing honest, constru …

Our mission: to publish a monthly literary digital magazine in Greensboro with the support and literary work of our group of writers and poets. We need poetry, prose, scripts, articles, essays and more. We will have guest speakers, brain storming sessions, workshopping and opportunities to be published. All are welcome! This group is sponsored by Hennen's Observer (hennensobserver.com).
We desire to tell our stories as we live out the gospel of Jesus in the triangle. This is a group for anyone who is interested in writing on a blog, a book, or submitting articles for publication. We will encourage each other in our writing, have a chance to read from what we are currently working on, and critique each other's work. We also desire to have quarterly guest speakers.
A group for women writers to write, read, share, discuss issues, develop workshops, collaborate, promote, come together.
Come meet other local writers and let creativity bloom! Looking to make this group writer friendly, helpful and encouraging to new and experienced writers. Critique for growth will be encouraged- but it should be appropriate and given in a helpful manner! The Durham Writer's Group is the second largest writer’s group in the RTP area. We are a group of writers focused primarily on improving our writing and polishing our work for publication. We do not charge no membership fees, try to keep meetin …
This is a group for anyone who enjoys reading or writing long-form or book-length works of nonfiction. If you enjoy long-form feature writing in the New Yorker, the Atlantic, or Esquire... or books by authors like Laura Hillenbrand, Rebecca Skloot, Bill Bryson, David Sedaris, Malcolm Gladwell, or Gay Talese, this would be a meetup for you. I'm looking forward to monthly meetups to read and discuss great nonfiction. Sometimes we'll read and discuss an article or two; other times, a nonfiction boo …
Bring in samples, bounce around ideas, start a workshop - we'll focus on encouraging pen-to-paper. To get the ball rolling, I'm including poets, too.
This group is for people who have or want to have their books published on eBook pages such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Sony, iTunes, Diesel-eBook, Smashwords, etc. The object of this group is to help people get through the intricacies of getting your book out, and share resources for cover art, advertising, and formatting. It was started by Steve Stone, teacher of eBook publishing classes at Wake Tech Community College because there is no group like it in the area.
Part drawing group, part book club. This is part of Durham County Library's "Durham Comics Project." Some weeks we'll meet up for casual group drawing. Some weeks we'll work on exercises.
We are writers and artists from all walks of life who gather together to share our gifts and experience, our stories and art, our successes and struggles, and to help each other reach new levels of expression. We celebrate all things artistic, most especially the creative essence that unites us all into one special Tribe. We meet every Wednesday at 6:30 at the Tipsy Teapot in downtown Greenville. Come join us. If you'd like more info just shoot me a line. Mark

GONE FISHIN' -- This group closed in 2009 due to waning interest by the members. No new events will be scheduled. No new members will be accepted. After the final installment "HP and the Deathly Hallows" was published, most people simply lost their enthusiasm for the Potterverse. Someone else started another HP group in Winston-Salem in 2010, but it only had a few events. I have purged this group's membership list and have kept this site only for archive purposes. We had a GREAT time for 2 years …
